SERCODER is a portable device, capable of receiving serial data and recording it to the audio track of video footage. Data can be then "replayed" from the footage for input to the PC and optionally overlaid into the video image. Therefore SERCODER can be used to synchronize data and video.

SERCODER is connected to serial output of measuring device. The serial data stream is converted to audio signal and recorded onto an audio or video tape. In playback mode the recorded signal can be read from the tape and converted back to data stream, which can be output as RS-232 signal or overlaid into the video image.
Depending on the input data flow speed, characteristics and error rate (caused by cabling, interference etc.), it may be necessary to extract and record data only partially. SERCODER therefore suits best for slow telemetry. As the full incoming serial data stream can be recorded separately, using e.g. a notebook computer connected to a SERCODER pass-through serial port, it is possible to use partially extracted data for video timestamping or synchronizing with the full recorded data stream.

In playback mode the recorded data is converted back to serial data stream and can be sent to serial output and/or optionally overlaid into the video image, thus leaving us unmodified raw video material.

SERCODER is easy to use - same physical device can be used both for recording and playback as well as video overlaying. Connecting cables is straight-forward and only two switches are used (power on/off and mode selector).
Different measuring devices can be connected to SERCODER - temperature or humidity probes, GPS devices, traffic radars and any other equipment having an RS-232 ouput.
As data from different sources and the desired output format varies, the recordable data stream must be customized, i.e. only selected data can be recorded. Based on sample data SERCODER will be configured for the customer.
What is the difference between SERCODER and other similar devices?
SERCODER-G is a model for using with GPS. It can read standard NMEA output from GPS and extract, record and overlay latitude, longitude, heading, speed and GPS time. Both PAL and NTSC versions are available.
